• My hosting company locked down my blog because it had malware. It was closed for over a year and now I have managed to get it back up but all the pictures are broken and that has broken my heart. Can someone help me? I need baby steps as I am really not at all knowledgeable in behind the scenes work. Thank you kind people. The blog means so much to me as a diary for my family of my year off after fighting to get fit after a terrible bus accident. Sorry for the sob story but I am really really keen to get this fixed for my grandkiddies.

  • How were you able to clean up your site? Did you have to delete some of the content? You may have to re-upload those pictures and update the links.

For example, one of the images has this address:

    https://www.kazjaz.com/carousel/2013/07/IMG_4614.jpg

Have you gone in with either an FTP client (like FileZilla) or your host’s cPanel to see if that image is still there?

The hosting company told me to look at the malware text file and delete the files listed, which I did. They told me it would not affect any content. They also told me they cannot help me with the picture issue. Now I just looked on the dashboard under Galleries and it says no gallery found. I am stunned beyond belief – does this mean I lost all my photos?

Did any of the files in the malware text file end with .jpg? I would be surprised if they asked you to delete those because even if some sort of virus were renamed to be a .jpg file, it wouldn’t be executable.

Do you not have any backups of the pictures on your local computer? And does your host do regular backups? I know some of the bigger hosts do regular backups and you can ask them to restore certain files from a particular date.

One thing you can also do is go to the Internet Archive (also known as the Wayback Machine). What this site does is take a snapshot of different sites over the course of time, so you can go back and see what your site looked like in the past. Here is a capture of your site from July 4, 2017. So what you can do is go through this archive of your site and save the pictures from there to your local computer, then upload them to your media library and recreate your galleries.

Wow – thank you so so much. I will contact Hostmonster again and ask them. I do have the photos backed up but there are so many from such a long trip, so I hope they can restore them all for me. I cannot thank you enough. I won’t resolve this post yet, until I have spoken with them.
    regards
    Karen
