Hi! I set this up today to do in feed ad display. The ad appears to be set up without issue and the ad unit exists in my adsense account – but no ad shows up in the feed. How do I troubleshoot this – or can you help?

    Thank you!

    Hi Carrie,

    thanks for reaching out.

Your archive pages have a custom layout that prevents the ad container to load properly. I can see the ad code, but it doesn’t have enough space.

Would you be able to test this custom CSS?

    .dista-adsense-in-feed { width: 100%; }

You can learn about how to use custom CSS on your blog here.

This is just a first try. When you move the ad to a lower position it might not work the same, but let’s see what the code above does first.

    Best regards,
    Thomas

I added that to the area that Astra provides for additional css. I don’t see a difference – but to be fair, I didn’t see the ad code in the feed at all to begin with. Where/how are you viewing it that you can see the ad code?

    Hi Carrie,

I can see the In-feed ad now, so that worked.

If you do as well then please try to change the option after which post to inject it to something bigger than 1 and let me know.

I am inspecting your website’s code in the browser’s Inspector. You can start this in most browsers by right-clicking on any element on the website and clicking on “Inspect element”. It should open another window with the code generated.

Search for dista-adsense-in-feed to find the custom CSS and the injected In-feed ad there.

I’m sorry… I still don’t see it. Either the ad in the feed it’s self (via two different viewers) or in the inspection of the feed in a browser. To clarify, I’m opening distanceparent.org/feed, right clicking and clicking inspect. Then I search for dista-adsense-in-feed in styles and it says it isn’t there. Could you help be better understand where to see it?

    Hi Carrie,

thanks for your feedback. I see the problem now. AdSense In-feed ads are not meant for “RSS Feeds”. They are referring to the list of articles on your home page or archive pages.

    E.g. on distanceparent.org and not distanceparent.org/feed.

It is technically not possible to load any JavaScript in the RSS feed, so using AdSense there wouldn’t work. It would also not work to place ads between posts in that feed, because feed readers would ignore that or not be able to interpret the feed at all.

If you want to use ads in the content delivered through RSS Feed then I would suggest creating ads in the content of posts (using any of our Content placements) and use images in there.

    Does that make sense?

    Best regards,
    Thomas

Doh! Yes… That makes sense. It was next on my list to find so I suppose I can mark that off. And sure enough, they are showing up in site feeds now. Thank you!
