Limiting images on blog home page

Most of my posts have multiple images in them, but I do not want those images showing up on the blog home page. How can I either disable images from appearing in the blog home page, or make it so only 1 image will show. Here’s an example if you don’t know what I am talking about.

I want to either be able to disable the images from appearing except when viewing the actual post, or only allow the first image to be displayed, in this example it would be the blue hills. I have looked around and can’t quite seem to figure it out. Thanks.
