I have a site on a host that is in a folder called ‘bettypeters’ in the public_html folder.

I set up a new DB so I could import an old bunch of articles I want to copy, by making a new folder in the public_html folder called ‘temp’

But every time I try to do the initial install using temp/wp-admin/install.php it keeps defaulting to the main website which is all beautifully set up and has a few articles in it already that I don’t want to mess up.

What did I do wrong? The new DB is a different name than the main one. The user is the same. I created the new DB and imported the older files in there just so I could see them…

  • Hello webmistressofthedark,

Did you change the URLs in new DB that you created?

New DB should have the URLs which is pointing to the new WordPress setup you did.

Let me know if you have any confusion.

    Thanks.

I did not change the URLs.. How do I do that?

The part after it says .com/ should be .com/temp/etc…. but how to accomplish this with 78 articles?

I can see the content by going into MyPHPAdmin so I might just have to grab them back that way?

You can change the URLs by a plugin called Better search & Replace.

Before using this make sure you take a proper backup.

    Thanks.

I decided to just use MyPHPAdmin and grab the articles that way… then I will delete the DB I imported and the WP installation in the temp folder.

I just hope it doesn’t mess up the main install. Yes I will take a full back up of that and its DB…
