Catchphrase Plugin

  • I’ve written a new plugin that explains certain Catchphrases when they are implemented into your site. I based the plugin on the code from Joel Bennett’s Acronym replacer. I’m posting this comment to ask if anyone has any specific Catchphrases or Names that you can think of which may be frequently typed but not always completley understood. I’d love to get them in before I release the first version. Below I have a few examples:
    "Uncle Sam" => "A name referring to the American Government (often used in reference to taxes)"
    "And now you know" => "Paul Harvey: The rest of the Story"
    "Bam!" => "Emeril Lagasse, used when adding an ingredient while cooking"
    ""Houston, we have a problem" => "Tom Hanks in Apollo 13"
    All additions are welcomed…

    I think that some default catchphrases could be useful, but it might be better if the site author included his or her own. For example, if I type “Idiot!” your definition might or might not be from Napoleon Dynamite. Thus, I think the plugin would serve the user best by having only a few included and then allowing the user to input his or her own. This seems really cool for someone like me who makes a lot of references to a wide variety of material that the reader might not catch. Have you contacted Dennis Miller about using this?
