• Heya,

I would like to add custom meta boxes to order items on the Edit Order page.

Our sales staff need to change meta data that has come through from the Product.

However, it is all done in text boxes.

Is there some way to have variations as drop-down selections so staff can update customer’s orders?

This would also hopefully change the price. We have thousands of variations and can’t force our staff to add things manually.

The reason the text Meta Boxes are no good is because staff could spell something wrong, the price also obviously doesn’t update. Which is a requirement.

Basically the product almost becomes static on an order.

TLDR; Does anyone know a way to create custom (or variation based) drop-down boxes for individual product meta on the Admin Order area?

I’ve looked into ACF (pro) to no avail.

    Thank you.

    Hey there!

What I would do given the limited knowledge of your needs or setup, is to use the setup outlined here to shop as your customers: https://www.skyverge.com/blog/processing-woocommerce-payments-customer/

That way you can just have your products setup as variable products or whatever on the front end, and no need to mess around with customizing the backend to make it do what you are wanting.

Hopefully that helps! Have a great one!

    Hi,

We are already using that ‘Impersonate’ plugin. but for a different purpose (to begin an order).

What I am looking for is for staff to be able to change Metadata on an order (i.e. after a customer has already started an order). We make custom items, sometimes variations need to be changed and I need staff to be able to select from the product variations on the Order Admin screen, as well as on the site.

I’m not sure why variations are not changeable once ordered and that they are added as simple text boxes – which no longer affect price ??

    Many thanks

    Eric

To clarify with a visual reference, I need to be able to add a drop-down box to each order item meta like this:

    https://prnt.sc/nb46k5

Instead of just having the text editable, the variations need to be accessible. Is there any way to do this?

    Any help appreciated ??

@tcuk1 This would not be possible without a bit of custom development. It is possible to move the order to On Hold, then add the new product variation and remove the initial product variation. Once this is done, the order values can be recalculated to the correct pricing.

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved – if you have any further questions, you can start a new thread.
