My site, using a Litespeed web server, crashed after upgrade leaving this message in browser:

Warning: require_once(lib/wordfenceClass.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /xxx/xxx/public_html/xxx/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/wordfence.php on line 72

Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required ‘lib/wordfenceClass.php’ (include_path=’.:/opt/cpanel/ea-php56/root/usr/share/pear’) in /xxx/xxx/public_html/xxx/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/wordfence.php on line 72

In order to recover my site I had to disable/delete Wordfence.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi @sherifb,

It seems like when Wordfence auto-updated, it did not update properly and some files ended up being deleted.

If you go ahead and delete Wordfence (which you have done already), and reinstall Wordfence, it should work fine.

    Hello.

Same for me, 2 wordpress installs broken after update from 7.2.3 to 7.2.4

    Litespeed web server too…

    Same message, same solution.

Thanks Dave for the quick response.
I have several sites in the same Litespeed hosting account and find that the crash happens regardless of whether it is an auto-update or manual update.
Seems the only reliable way is to deactivate Wordfence, then delete, then do a new install, then activate … mmmmm … bit tedious …

Presumably to resolve this issue, I need to follow this procedure … ??

    Hi @sherifb,

Yes, when updating Wordfence does run in the background for an extended amount of time. When this happens, LiteSpeed may terminate the process, resulting in a broken update.

Thank you for bringing that up, this should allow Wordfence to update uninterrupted.
