With a recent update my gallery is no longer displaying the way I want. All the images appear in a grid format which cuts out a large part of each image. The thumbnail settings are set this way and if I override them to adjust for varying image sizes then the images do not display at all. Can you help me figure out how to fix this? Thanks

  • Hi @nonob55

Please, while editing your gallery display: Try to adjust your settings under the tab “Customize Display Settings” > Override thumbnail settings.

By default, the thumbnails are 240×160 pixels.
You can change that to other dimensions like 240×300 pixels.

Note: do not forget to click on “Insert Gallery” and “Update” (to save the changes).

We hope that this helps! Please, keep us posted.

Thank you but I’ve tried that and when I save it none of the images display. I have a screen shot to show you what I mean, but don’t see any way to attach it here. I’ve reverted to the grid as I don’t want my page to appear corrupted while I figure this out.

    Hi @nonob55

You can use this free software to take some screenshots.
If you create an account, you can upload that screenshot and share the link with us. It’s pretty easy to use: https://monosnap.com/welcome

According to your description, it seems that the images are taking a long time to load (Maybe that was the main reason). Please, check this article: https://www.imagely.com/docs/image-sizes-and-resolutions/ make sure that your photos are not too big or else it will increase the page loading time.

Please, keep us posted. We are happy to help.

Thank you for your continued patience. The problem is not that the images take a long time to render it is that they do not render at all. In the grid/thumbnail view they render almost instantly. But when I I choose “override thumbnail settings.” the images don’t load at all.

Here’s a link to a screenshot that shows you what it looks like after about 5 minutes waiting for it to load. https://www.screencast.com/t/slrQjK1b

I haven’t found a way to attach a screenshot so I hope this works.

    Hi @nonob55

Thank you so much for that screenshot.
The forum does not allow files attachment; you should provide links to the screenshots just like you did. Again, thank you.

First of all, check if you have our last version installed: NextGen Gallery V 3.1.14

Now! There are so many things that might be happening.
    Let’s check for conflicts.

1.- Temporarily deactivate all your plugins except NextGen Gallery.
2.- Test again, try to recreate or change those thumbnails.
3.- Is the problem solved? Then, it was caused by one of your plugins. Please check one by one and find the one causing the problem.
4.- If the problem is not solved with the deactivation of the plugins, try changing to a standard WordPress theme, it could be a conflict with your current theme.

Please let us know how it goes.

HI, I’m sorry I got very busy and didn’t have time to take this on. I just tried your last suggestion. I deactivated all my plugins, changed the Override thumbnail settings to “yes” and re-loaded the page. The problem still is there. I have not changed themes however as that is not an option for me. It worked just fine for a year with this theme and then suddenly stopped working. Sigh…
