• I’ve really tried to like this plugin (paid version) but am left with a bad taste in my mouth. I’ve reached out through the Envira support channel and here on WordPress but have had no replies.

On the face of it, the plugin look great and is doing a good job. But I have serious reservations about what’s happening under the hood. The plugin created many thumbnails for all kinds of sizes (with various single-letter suffixes on them). Some of these are ridiculous in size (250K when the original image was 100k). Then selecting a thumbnail size in Envira made no difference to the displayed result!

GTmetrix alerted to oversized images being loaded onto the page:

`…is resized in HTML or CSS from 800×569 to 316×225. Serving a scaled image could save 95.0KiB (84% reduction).

WebPageTest gave poor page-load performance results…

I’ve had to repair my Media library after using the plugin and have spent far too much time on this. To cap it off, when I deleted the plugin it deleted many image files from my Media Library that were still in use on various pages (despite the fact it says it will not do this). It’s a mess under the hood.

My advice after this experience (and trying other galleries) is that the best gallery is NO GALLERY AT ALL. Just accept that the web has moved on to mobile-centric and people don’t care about your galleries and lazy loading and scripts and crap and just want fast, clean code giving a simple result – scroll images down the page using the simple WordPress Media Library features (not Media Galleries though, that’s not responsive).

  • Hi @rondowd, I’m very sorry you feel that way.

I can assure you the only thumbnails that Envira creates are marked accordingly with an _c (if cropping set to centered, _tl (if set to top left) and etc. Those other image sizes are created by what you have set inside Settings >> Media as well as what your theme or other plugins may create.

I can assure you that if support hasn’t addressed your support tickets, it’s likely we didn’t receive them or perhaps you’re not receiving our replies. If you want to email support directly to [email protected] we can try again to reach out or you can contact us through Twitter as well.

Please let us know if we can help!
