    Hi there,

How can I add images from an existing gallery to a new gallery?

I searched the web but I can only find solutions to upload new images and not to add images that already exist in the NextGen “universe”.

I seem to be able to add images by either uploading, adding them from the media library or import an entire folder from another gallery.

I don’t want to upload the images again. The images don’t appear in the WP media library. And I don’t want to import an entire folder.

This seems nonsensical, therefore I must be missing something.

    Thanks & Cheers,
    Alex

  • do you have cpanel access?
nextgen from my experience can move files but cannot duplicate and move.

make a new empty gallery in nextgen and take note of the file path.

find the files you want to move to the new location and make note of their path.

Going to file manager and find the files you took note of that you want to move. Click on each of those files you want to move and you should be able to copy them and it will ask for a destination make the destination your new folder that you took note of which is currently empty. Once the files are copied to the new location go back into nextGen. Go to the manage galleries section and that gallery will still show empty. Click scan for new files and it will locate all the new files and generate thumbnails

Thank you @houcatdad for chiming in.

Whilst this is an acceptable, but tedious solution to a site admin like me, it’s not viable for the artist which runs that site.

There must be a better, built-in way to do this.

Like an option “add images from existing NextGen gallery”…

would be nice but I don’t think I ever found it. …i’ll look again. i’ve had to do this many times before

    So it actually is possible..
if you want to copy existing files to a new gallery…
Go to Manage Galleries. Create a new, blank gallery.

Now go to the gallery w/ the original files.
Mark the checkbox for all the pictures you want to move.
At the top, on that action drop-down… select Copy To. and hit apply
now a dropdown of all the galleries comes up. Scroll to the bottom for the new blank gallery you created.

Or copy them to whatever other gallery you want if the new destination(s) already exist.

    @houcatdad thank you very much!!

    That’s a viable solution.

Feedback to developer: I wish there was the option to add images from existing galleries the same way it’s possible to add images form the medial library.

    Hi @alframe,

Indeed, that solution is the best.
Please, let us know how it goes.

Note: Thank you so much @houcatdad for this fantastic feedback.

@gabyimagely Than you for your reply!

Weeeellll… Best would be to add it to the UI but that workaround works for now.
