Site Topic – CSS Newbie – Be nice

    I developed a style sheet for my site that makes use of some transparancy. It works ok for IE6, FF, and Opera in windows. I’m curious to know how it looks for others. I’m also open to any/all critiques.
    It’s at https://www.thehochhouse.com/wp/
    And it should “default” to my new style, if not, please select “One-Road” from the style switcher.

    It defaulted to Bulletinboard for me. Upon clicking the link, One-Road does look quite nice (using Safari v.1.2.4). However, you may want to validate your XHTML or remove the valid XHTML link from your side bar. https://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thehochhouse.com%2Fwp%2F
    Your CSS, however, is perfectly valid. Congrats!

    Fixed the validation. It was the End Of Article Bug Plugin that was throwing in extra tags.

    Heh, I like the sound of that plugin. It should be included in the special April Fools distribution of WP just to annoy those of us obsessed with validation. ^_-
    Great CSS, BTW….in case I haven’t said that yet.

    Actually the CSS for the One Road style is not valid either, because of the IE filter for png-opacity. There are other solutions if you care about css validity, search for IE7 and/or pngHack…

    you realise that validation link points to this site, don’t you? The site in question doesn’t validate because of the opacity stuff, as previously pointed out

    I’m aware that the opacity filter isn’t valid CSS. I’m actually ok with it. IE should be the only browser that “reads” that property. I do want Mozilla, etc to ignore it. I did search a bit for different ways to accomplish it but I couldn’t figure out how to swap the images for gifs in the CSS based on browser detection. I’m certainly open to suggestions and I will search some more for a more “elegant” solution.

    a few style points, I would make the content and links background a little bit closer to white, making it easier to read and much easier on the eyes. Also, try making them a little more opaque, and I personally dont like the color entry updates have. But it is a very well put together site!

    omanno, by “color entry updates” do you mean the green background? Also – what browser did you view it in?

    My host’s server died. They spent all day rebuilding it I guess. It’s back up now.
