Installations keep offering en_gb and en_us

  • Slightly confused as to why this happens on all of my installs. Whenever updates are available I am offered two updates to WP; one for en_gb and one for en_us – yet my language is only ever set to English (UK) and no additional languages are present in the relevant folders.

    For example I am seeing this on one site –

    An updated version of WordPress is available.
    You can update to WordPress 5.1.1–en_GB automatically:
    [Update now][Hide this update]
    You can update to WordPress 5.1.1–en_US automatically:
    [Update now]

    While your site is being updated….

    How can I stop being offered the en_us install?

  • This is because en_GB is your set language and en_US is the system default. If you removed en_GB it would default back to en_US as that is what the software is written with if that makes sense? So you’ll always have both options.
