(The wordpress files are in /dec2016wp/)

I tried to deactivate W3 Total Cache and my site went down with the white screen and this message:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function nocache_headers() in /home4/penro/public_html/dec2016wp/wp-admin/admin.php on line 36

    Will immensely appreciate any suggestions

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

The site is still looking okay (https://pennyrosenwasser.com), but the admin area is just the white page and fatal error.

I am wrong, it’s the entire site that is getting the white screen of death and the fatal error given above.

Sorry, the fatal error on the front end is different from the admin:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp() in /home4/penro/public_html/dec2016wp/wp-blog-header.php on line 16

After the site is restored I will need to update plugins, since the restore will be from some days ago.

So I will need to understand something because I don’t want to repeat the crash: is it possible that clicking to deactivate W3 Total Cache corrupted the WordPress files? Or do you think the issue pre-existed – was caused by something different?

(The reason I was deactivating W3 Total Cache is that I found a warning from HostGator (my host) against using W3 Total Cache, on this page: https://support.hostgator.com/articles/w3-total-cache-wordpress-plugin)

    Hello,
No, deactivating W3 Total Cache cannot corrupt your files.
What you have found on Hostgator page is that they do not recommend to have W3 Total Cache installed along with any other caching plugin. It is not recommended to have more than one Caching plugin.
I am running numerous websites on Hostgator with W3 Total Cache without any issues, the websites are running like a charm.
Now as you can see they are also showing you how to install W3 Total Cache. So unless you have any other caching plugin installed, You do not have to deactivate W3 Total Cache.
If you have any questions regarding the configuration of the plugin, please feel free to ask.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I restored my site and then attempted to deactivate W3 Total Cache again. I got this error message:

Some files appear to be missing or out of place. Please re-install plugin or remove /wp-content/advanced-cache.php.

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /wp-content/advanced-cache.php:26) in /wp-admin/includes/misc.php on line 1198

UPDATE: i removed the file: /wp-content/advanced-cache.php

and now the error messages are gone and W3 TC is deactivated and the site seems okay.

I also realized the PHP on this site badly needed updating and have done that. Maybe that is what was causing all this trouble.
