• I upgraded to 5.1 on two different domains and can’t edit pages on either. I’ve tried changing the theme and deactivating all the plugins. I tried downgrading back to 5.0 but the problem persists.

  • What version did you upgrade from? Do you see any type of error or message when going to modify the page?

If not, what exact issue are you having when trying to edit? The text cannot be updated or you just can’t save the changes that you make?

I also can’t write any blog post after 5.1 update.
i can’t scroll down the block during writing time.
    what can i do ?

I upgraded from 5.0. The site was working fine before the upgrade. I’m using Classic Editor, and when I open a page to edit it, I see what looks like a blank page. I cannot click Visual or Text, and no content shows. I tried deactivating Classic Editor, and when I open a page I get a completely blank screen. I don’t see any error messages.

I also tried adding a new page, and it is also not possible to edit. I can’t add text or media.

I chose to downgrade to WordPress version 4.9.8. Everything is working correctly now.

It may be a conflict with one or more of the plugins you are using or possibly your theme depending on whether it adds code to the editing screen. If you do decide to upgrade again and have the same issue, try disabling all of your plugins temporarily to see if that resolves the issue.

If not, try switching temporarily to a default version of the TwentyNineteen theme or similar. If one of those fixes the issue, then you can go through and re-enable your plugins one by one, checking the editing functionality each time and hopefully find the culprit that way.

I tried both of those fixes and they did not work. It appears that this is a common problem for older sites that are upgraded to gutenberg.

I am having exact same problem: unable to edit pages or posts.
The edit page opens completely blank.

I disabled all plug-ins and switched to a default theme.

    My current versions:
    WordPress 5.1 | PHP 7.1.22 | Apache | MySQL 5.5.59-MariaDB

Any help or direction would be appreciated.

We’re having the exact same problem.
    Any help would be appreciated!

I used the plugin UpdraftPlus – Backup/Restore to back up my blog and then used the plugin WP Downgrade to go back to a previous version. That cleared up the problems for me.

I did the same thing as Pistulka – backed up the site and used WP Downgrade to go back to 4.9.8. Everything is working fine now.

I just updated WordPress 5.1 and I also have the same problem when I use the classic editor. In Gutenberg I can not see the content of other post previously published.
