    Hello,

    Total newbie here. I am getting the orange box error message(there was an error trying to send your message. Please try again later) when using a new Contact Form 7 form on my page. I read some of the other ‘solutions’ and decided to completely remove recaptcha from my site. I am also not using Akismet.

    I do not have anything written on my blacklist form.

    I am using an email address I know works(it’s a Gmail account) but I am still getting the errors.

    Should I just try a different contact form plugin instead?

    The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hello,
    I am having this same issue. I noticed that two of the rejection messages are the some, one for a failed send and another for when it identifies spam. So, I changed the message for spam, and I got my message rejected and it was the message for “Submission was referred to as spam”

    So it seems that reCaptcha3 is being a little too strong. also, I noted that this happened in the Chrome browser, but not the Safari or Firefox browser. The Chrome browser was just updated recently (which it does automatically BTW), and it broke a browser extension I use. I had not had this problem previously.

    Here was the explanation in that case:
    “The concern was in fact related to the signature of the Chrome browser thus preventing the application from working properly.” Apparently, the extension did a check of the browser signature, which changed in the recent update.

    Could this part of the issue?

    Hi aoesting,

    I am not familiar enough with how the Form 7 works to know if the chrome update is the issue. I did remove my recaptcha plugin from the site entirely though, so I am not sure it has anything to do with that – unless recaptcha is now built directly in the Contact Form 7 plugin?

    Hi bkirkwood,
    Actually, Contact Form 7 does contain reCaptcha technology, however, the most recent version of the plugin uses reCaptcha version 3, which is “invisibile” and does not appear on the form. However, it seems version 3’s algorithm or whatever it uses to assess whether a message is spam or not has a little too high a bar. I had a customer whose messages we rejected as spam, and when I went to test the form on our site, it rejected my message as spam as well. However, it only happened in Chrome, not Firefox or Safari. That and another recent problem I just had with the latest version of Chrome are what made me wonder if it is something in Chrome that is causing reCaptcha v3 to give false positives to legit messages.

    You can find out more about reCaptcha in Contact Form 7 here:

    @bkirkwood – I tested your form.

    It looks like you are still using reCAPTCHA in your CF7 form. I suspect you’ve setup reCAPTCHA v2 previously in the WordPress/Dashboard/Admin menu at Contact > Contact Forms > Integration.

    The CF7 form is probably trying to use the previous values you added – which are no longer valid as CF7 updated to reCAPTCHA v3.

    Deleting an another recaptcha plugin (which appears to have been an unnecessary duplication) does not change anything you did directly in the CF7 Integration section.

    The easiest option for you (if you don’t need reCAPTCHA) is probably to delete any setup you added in the CF7 Integration section at WordPress/Dashboard/Admin menu at Contact > Contact Forms > Integration.

    If you do need reCAPTCHA, you might try using Contact Form 7 – reCaptcha v2 in addition to Contact Form 7. Once installed and configured it offers the same reCaptcha functionality you are used to in previous versions of Contact Form 7 (recommended by CF7 plugin author).

    Alternatively you can setup your form to use to reCAPTCHA (v3).

    @buzztone,

    You were right, I still had reCAPTCHA(v3) connected and that was causing the errors. Thanks for looking into this!

    I will try to set the form back up with reCAPTCHA v2 and see how that goes.

    Thanks again!!
