This image has the section. The widget name is Featured slider, if you select the featured post categories then the sidebar will be displayed.

Hi There,

It might have been because of the images size, you can try resizing them using plugin “Regenerate Thumbnails”.
If not can you email us your site url at [email protected] so we can check what is going on , are there any other plugins conflicting,etc. on site of above screenshot there seems to be used some other theme.

@makol in case you still have trouble with this issue, try to select for page used as homepage a template without sidebar. Worked well for me
