I recently moved my blog from Typepad to WordPress, and I’m having a couple of problems with trackbacks.
First, I’ve attempted to trackback to several posts on other blogs, only to return to those blogs to find that my trackbacks didn’t register. Second, I’ve had at least one person tell me they attempted to trackback to a post on my blog, only to find that it didn’t take.
I haven’t made any tweaks to how my installation of WordPress handles trackbacks.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

I am having the exact same problem. Pingbacks don’t work, either, as well. I am using the freshly released 1.2.1 WordPress release. Please help! They did work in 1.2.

    Yes, there’s a fix. Try this: https://iozblog.ionosfera.com/archives/2004/08/29/wordpress_trackback_fix/
    It worked for me, confirmed.

My Trackbacks work fine…why am I supposed to go editing the code?

I tried that fix. It only worked halfway for me. I’ve since managed to rig up a trackback account with HaloScan. Not the ideal situation, but it will have to do for now, at least until I figure out how to get my content out of WordPress and into another program.

Trackbacks aren’t working for me either and I’m using 1.2.1. I wish someone would finally fix this in an official release. It’s been a headache for me since 1.2.

I’m curious as to what exactly isn’t working with the trackback? And please understand that to be a sincere question, not trying to be a wiseguy.
I keep finding google links about WP trackback bug, but can’t find what it is that isn’t working. I leave trackback all the time on sites, have had sites leave trackback on mine.
I’m using 1.2.1 and I’d like to at least look and see why mine is working, or if there is something mine is doing that I don’t know about, then I can try to fix it.
    Thanks,
    Paul

Well, I’m in the process of trying to figureout moving from WordPress to another blogging tool that doesn’t have this problem. I’m probably not going to stay with WordPress.
I haven’t been able to get a full solution to this problem. In the process I’ve switched servers, and I still have the problem, so that doesn’t appear to have been the issue.

Terrance, do you have an xmlrpc.php file in your blog directory?

    (@terrancedc)

No. I don’t have that file. There didn’t appear to be such a file included when I downloaded the software.

    Hi,
Been following this thread because I’ve been having problems with trackback and pingback since starting a WordPress blog a couple of weeks ago. I don’t have xmlrpc.php, either. If this is the problem, what’s the fix? Thanks.

    “I don’t have xmlrpc.php, either. “
    https://cvs.sourceforge.jp/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/wordpress/wordpress/xmlrpc.php
For WP 1.2.x, click the download link for revision 1.8. Upload this to your blog’s main directory.

Does anyone know if trackbacks should work if my weblog is hosted by Tripod-Lycos? Tnx in advance.

If you can run WordPress, then trackbacks should work.

How is xmlrpc.php supposed to help my trackback problem? And if I needed it, why wasn’t it included in my initial WordPress download?

Thanks for the help finding xmlrpc.php. That got pingbacks working.
Follow-up question: when I send a pingback, the text in the pinged blog’s comment section starts with the end of my tagline, rather than the title of the post. Can anyone tell me where I can edit the message that pingback sends?
    Thanks.
