• Hi all. We’re implementing this membership plugin with the intention of selling a subscription to articles, paid via credit cards using PayPal’s “enhanced recurring payments” feature. This required setting up a PayPal Pro account with the extra $10/month “pay by any credit card” feature.

The problem that we’re having is that when we create a PayPal Subscription button in SWPM, when used it only presents the options to either create or log-into a PayPal account. My understanding is that I should also have the option to use a credit card directly without a PayPal account. I have since verified with PayPal support that the account is setup correctly on PayPal’s end in order to support this.

I’m kind of at a loss…can you shed some light onto this problem? PayPal support said they couldn’t really be of further assistance because it all depends on how the plugin uses the PayPal API.

Hi, have you also enabled the API feature in your PayPal account?

    Kind regards

Yes, the IPN feature is turned on. I had set it up at the beginning using the same instructions you just linked, and I also just verified that IPN is enabled in the PayPal account.

Hi, it looks like you have set up everything correctly. I have submitted a message to the developers to investigate further your issue.

PayPal offers the credit card payment for the standard PayPal subscription checkout if you enable the “Enhanced Recurring Payments” feature in your PayPal account. The paypal support personnel who was replying to you probably wasn’t aware of this.

The “Enhanced Recurring Payments” option allows you to offer guest checkout for the standard subscription checkout

@wpinsider-1, I already setup the account for Enhanced Recurring Payments, that step was in the plugin doc. Do you have a link or screenshot you can show to illustrate how to verify the setting from your point of view?

@wpinsider-1, is there anything more you can look at, or is this solely a PayPal problem in your opinion?

@mbrsolution, @wpinsider-1, is anyone going to pursue this further?

I have setup the PayPal account exactly as you suggested and verified the settings against your doc and PayPal’s doc. We should be able to take credit cards with that PayPal account, yet the credit card option does not get displayed at checkout.

Hi, just to confirm with you. Did you follow these instructions?

If you did follow the above instructions, then the issue might be related to your PayPal account. The reason why I am saying this is because there are thousands using our plugin and have no issue with PayPal subscription payment. So we know it works. It is very challenging sometimes to troubleshoot something that works in may different environments.

By the way I am also curious to know why it does not work in your PayPal account.

    Kind regards

@mbrsolution, yes, I followed the instructions.

I agree, it can be challenging to troubleshoot remote issues. I don’t doubt that the plugin can be made to work. It just isn’t working for me for some reason.

I have contacted PayPal support several times, and I believe the account is setup correctly for 3rd-party credit card payment for Enhanced Recurring Billing. Here are some screenshots that show this feature is active, if you still think it’s setup wrong I would like you to point out what’s wrong with it…I’m not a PayPal expert.

And here’s a screenshot of the actual problem that occurs during checkout…there is no option to make the payment without creating or logging into a PayPal account:

Any help you can provide is most appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, just one question. What happens when you click on PayPal Check out button illustrated in the following image?

This is really a PayPal issue. We know that when the enhanced recurring billing feature is enabled correctly, PayPal is suppose to show the credit card checkout option for guests. Nothing extra to do in our plugin unfortunately.

@wpinsider-1, @mbrsolution, I agree with you that this is probably a PayPal account setup problem. Could you do me a favor and take some screenshots illustrating the right way to set up your PayPal settings? It’s confusing as all-get-out, and PayPal suppport doesn’t seem to have a clue.

Hi, what you can do is share the following instructions to PayPal support staff. The images that you shared above in regards to the PayPal settings, look correct to me. Unfortunately I can’t share the settings in my PayPal account because I have never setup the subscription options in my PayPal account. However the developers, other support staff plus users of our plugins have.

I am also very curious to know what PayPal support staff have to say about this.

    Kind regards
