Using the Yoast plugin I created a sitemap and then attempted to input it in the Google Search Console. I have been trying different ways of doing this for the past several weeks and I cannot get Google to fetch the sitemap.

In the sitemap section on the Google page it reads sitemap type as “unknown” and the status reads as “couldn’t fetch.”

I am using Yoast 9.5 and all my other plugins are up to date. My sitemap is located here: https://rjoyphoto.com/sitemap_index.xml

I have been consistent in using https so that should not be an issue either. In the older version of the Google Search Console it reads “pending” as the submission status for the sitemap. I am able to “fetch as Google” and do everything else except for upload the actual site map and the last time Google crawled my site was on 25 January, before it was even live.

    Can anyone help???

    Hi,

We are not sure why Google is not able to accept your sitemap. We ran a curl check and it shows 200. See image: https://pasteboard.co/I0PPSbh.png . This means Google is expected to find and crawl your sitemap. We suggest the following actions:

    1. Clear all your caching from your theme, plugin, server, CDN like CloudFlare or browser. If you are not sure how to clear caching from theme/plugin please speak to those authors. If you want to clear cache from the server, please speak to your host provider. To clear the cache from a browser use this guide:?https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-to-clear-my-browsers-cache/.

    2. Delete your sitemap in Google. Doing so will not hurt the SEO of the site. This guide explains more (scroll to the bottom):?https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/183669?hl=en.

    3. Submit the sitemaps again. This guide explains more:?https://kb.yoast.com/kb/submit-sitemap-search-engines/.

    4. Monitor the results to see if more pages get indexed

Note, please also confirm you are adding the sitemap under this site: https://rjoyphoto.com. It must show the https when you add your sitemap.
