Why is there no way to display the search fields to the public? I can only see the search fields if logged in. The public can see the member directory without having to join, so how do I get the public to see the search fields too? I already tried selecting all and deselecting all the User Roles and that didn’t change anything.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Double check to make sure that in your Members directory under “User Roles that can use search” you have no users selected.

    Byzane,

I just tried that and it still doesn’t work. I even tried it on the other 3 variations I have of the directory pages and no luck. I did as you said and deselected the user roles from the “User Roles that can use search”. I’m puzzled to say the least.

By the way, I’m testing this all by being logged into one browser as the admin and then testing my results in a different browser to see if public non-members could see the search.

I’ll bet that if I had not selected any roles in the first place, I wouldn’t be having this issue. I’m guessing that even though I have deselected every role for the search, it is still leaving something in the database table field. I’ve encountered strange things like this in my past experience with databases.

Anything else you can think of to try?

Here’s the main page the directory is on. https://ptbcct.org/members/

    That is very bizarre.

At this point, I’d recommend reinstalling Ultimate Member because that’s not normal behavior.

You can also perform a theme/plugin conflict test to see if that might be the reason.

It’s working now and I don’t know why. I suspect it had something to do with Divi theme and builder. When I switched to a different theme it would work, so I started looking around for what was going on. Chose to rebuild the page again with Divi and now it works.

@stevonsky If you’re still lurking, how were you able to allow users to “Sort” your Member Directory from your front-end? That’s something I would like incorporate on my own site.

I created 3 additional “member directories” each with their own default sort. Then I added each of their code to a new page. Then I had to add the nav links to each. I could not figure out any other way to do this. Seems odd to me that they don’t have this capability built in so you can do it on the main directory page.
