Parse error in functions.php

  • When I attempt to install, install.php runs for a bit and then this appears on my screen:
    Parse error: parse error, expecting T_VARIABLE' or ‘$” in /home/xxxxx/public_html/xxxxx/wp-includes/functions.php on line 267
    Fatal error: Call to undefined function: add_action() in /home/xxxxxx/public_html/xxxxxx/wp-includes/functions-formatting.php on line 3
    Any ideas? Thanks.

  • Delete all the files in the wp-includes direcory, and re-upload them.
    It’s very probably an ftp error.

    Good call, our parental controls software was apparently interfering with the FTP upload. Shut that off and recopied the files, and installation was flawless.
