Conversely no issues adding emojy to the tag title.

I have also tried different browsers.

Can you please let us know how you are adding the emoji in the meta description? We tried adding one and were able to using the most current version of Yoast SEO and WordPress.

Also, this may be due to a plugin or theme conflict. Can you try and gather as much information for us as possible? Please perform the following:

    1. Check for conflicts.
    2. Check for JavaScript errors with your console.
If you find any JavaScript errors related to Yoast SEO or if there is a conflict with a plugin or a theme, you can create a new GitHub issue for our developers. Please report the issue to a third party developer as well.

I have deactivated all the plugins and I switched to the default WordPress theme,
no conflicts detected and no javascript errors but same problem with emojy.
I usually copy the emojy from website like https://emojipedia.org

To use an emoji, the database must be able to save them in the correct format. Please check that your database collation supports saving emojis. If you are unsure how to check this, please contact your server admin or webhost.

Note: I was able to use emojis in a test environment.

The database works fine because as I said before the emoji are correctly saved in the tag title.
The issue is only with tag description

Another recent topic covered the same issue. And I’ve tested with emojis in the post description, tag description, the media title and description, the category and tag titles and the author archive description. Even tested overriding a specific post with a different format (swapped the two emojis). All saved correctly. All show in the browser and source code.

Is this the same place that you are adding the emoji in the tag meta description? If not, please share a screenshot in which you highlight the issue you are experiencing.

I share a video recording of my issue: https://streamable.com/om8e2
Oddly enough after many attempts I found that only few emojy are saving as you can see from this screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/t1VEGDw

Same happens to me, just a short amount of emojis can be saved. But most of them are not saved correctly, not idea why.

    @gamma42

While we the video does not show the full issue (it looks like it gets cut off) we did test with Hearts with Arrow. It saved using Chrome as expected both in the title and meta areas of both a post and a tag. See image for a post: https://pasteboard.co/HYHguQN.png. See image for a tag page: https://pasteboard.co/HYHh97L.png.

We are not sure why certain emojis are failing to save. We would like some more information.

    1. Does the issue resolve if you clear your cache and cookies? These guides explain more:?How to clear my browser’s cache??and? How to Clear my Cookies??

    2. Does the issue resolve if you use a different browser such as Chrome or FireFox??

    3. Does the issue resolve if you use another device such as another computer, tablet, or mobile phone??

    4. If you have any browser plugins, does disabling them resolve the issue? ?

    5. Can you confirm the database supports it? The database should support 4 byte collations with ‘utf8mb4’.If you are not sure if it does, please contact your host provider.

    Hi Pcosta,

    thank you for the suggestions.

I have tried everything as you suggested.
I changed browser, I cleared the cookies.
I have tried from my Iphone and even from a Windows notebook.

Yes the databse supports 4 byte collations with utf8mb4.

Some of the emojy supported (since I have tried so far) are: ?, ?, ???♂?, ???♀?

    I give you another hint!

Today I have tried to add one of those emojy which are not saved to the title and then I used the snippet variable %title% and oddly enough it worked!

Unfortunately, we think the issue is specific to your site. We’d need to investigate further but are unable to do so on these forums. You can purchase Yoast SEO Premium and receive our Premium email support and we can help you further.
