• Hello,

So I have just taken on a new client. They would like their WordPress website to be hosted by myself rather than their previous designers (they shut down).

But, I have encountered a large problem. We have no access to the host or back end of the WordPress administration account. My client does not know the username (or even if they had one) or password for the WordPress login.

I have mirrored the website so we have a copy but of course, when mirroring, the wp-admin does not come with the files.

We can prove ownership, as we own the domain.

    Can anyone provide any suggestions?

Without access to the host, you’re pretty much out of luck. Tools like wpscan can help you get userids, and from that you might be able to luck out with a password change request.

Do you (or your client) happen to have a backup?

Firstly I would suggest to contact the previous website creator and/or hoster, or if they shut down, try to find any contact of some of the people from their management. That would be the easiest way.

If they refuse, legal action might be taken, but that depends a lot on the details of the situation.

If you are asking of the technical way, then no – it is not possible to find out password of the admin (unless you have access to database). If it would be, none of the WP websites would be safe, right? ??
