• Hi all – I have a few problems with this plugin which means it just doesnt work.

I’m no expert at all this (hence using plugins to start with!) so please bear with me.

Firstly, since the Recaptcha 3 update I have been receiving spam messages through my contact page, which seems to indicate that Recaptcha isnt doing its job. I never had this problem with Recapcha 2.

Secondly, the form has now stopped working altogether, just giving the message: ‘Failed to send your message. Please try later or contact the administrator by another method’

Looking through the forums I’ve seen the second issue mentioned several times, but with no fix and also no input from the author.

It only came to my attention when a prospective client e-mailed instead and mentioned the problem, I’d not have known otherwise. I have no idea if I have lost business or clients through this.

Does anyone have a fix or would I be better off just getting a different plugin?

    Thanks all

  • Having the same exact issue!

See Contact Form 7 5.1.1 – theme needs to properly loads JavaScript in the footer area of each page.

Switch temporarily (nothing will be lost when you switch back) to a WP default theme to see if the problem goes away.

If this fixes the problem & you can’t get your theme fixed, you might try using Contact Form 7 – reCaptcha v2 in addition to Contact Form 7. Once installed and configured it offers the same reCaptcha functionality you are used to in previous versions of Contact Form 7 (recommended by CF7 plugin author).

If using default theme doesn’t stop the error, you could have a general WP email sending problem. See If You Have Email Problems – most people that work carefully through this list of email sending issues are able to solve their particular problems.

@rkotwica – see I have the same problem! Can I just reply to someone else’s post with “Me too”?.

If you are willing to create a new question, which details your issues, somebody will likely be able to help you there.

    @buzztone Thanks for your reply.

To start with your last suggestion, I dont think it is my e-mail which is the problem. It worked fine until the latest version. Nothing else has changed and my newsletter signup page works perfectly (that goes via mailchimp). The link you supplied basically says it’s nothing to do with Contact Form 7 which works flawlessly (hmm lol)

I havent tried the changing theme thing, but then again, the only thing which has changed was CF7 updating. There are no new updates for my theme, and as that was quite expensive I’m more tempted to lose CF7 than change themes (although a major site update will be coming soon). Again – it’s only since CF7 updated the problem appeared.

Re the Recaptcha 2 – I’m a little confused. I was ‘pushed’ into upgrading to Recaptcha 3 by CF7 for some reason, so now have to install another plugin to downgrade ReCaptcha to work with the plugin which made me update in the first place? It does seem a very clumsy workaround

I was kind of hoping that the author would see the problem and fix it, rather than encouraging me to either install yet more plugins on the site or change my site to suit the plugin.

I’ll consider the theme thing but in the meantime will also look at other plugins for something reliable ‘out of the box’ so to speak.

Thanks for the reply and help

We fixed the bugs in Contact Form 7 by using the “Invisible reCaptcha” plugin By Mihai Chelaru and turning off the broken reCaptcha in Contact form 7. At that point we were able to remove the keys for reCaptcha v3 in Contact Form 7 and use the reCaptcha v2 that worked just fine.
