• Since the WP 5.0 update there is no longer any option to view the revision history for any page. The option checkbox no longer shows up in the screen options and no history option appears anywhere else. This has happened on all my sites. I am not running any caching plugins nor any database optimizers. I am running the sites on WPEngine which is a WP optimized hosting provider. Can anyone shed light on whether this is a feature that was dropped or has something to do with the hosting environment?

  • Post revisions should be showing here: https://wpde.sk/po/12a3ah7j5to4.png

If it’s different in your case, please try to isolate the issue. To see whether the theme is to blame, temporarily switch to the Storefront theme and test.

If you still have the problem, it could be a plugin conflict. Still with Storefront, temporarily deactivate all plugins except WooCommerce and test. It should work now?

Reactivate one-by-one and test to try to identify which software element is causing the problem.

@ospiotr Why are you talking about the Storefront theme?

@adwiz Yes, revisions are still supported and should show up in the right hand sidebar, in the “Document” tab. If they don’t show up, is anything else missing as well? Categories? Tags? Author selection (if you have more than one possible author)?

The Documents tab doesn’t exist unless you use the Gutenberg editor. I use the Classic Editor because all my themes use WPBakery Page Builder plugin which I feel is still vastly superior to Gutenberg. It seems that the Classic Editor plugin disables the history option.

Hmm. Haven’t checked that. If you’re using the Classic Editor plugin, then it gives you the option to access the new editor as well, so, try editing a post with the new editor and see if the revisions option is there. Just looking at the editor without saving anything won’t change a post, so it’s safe to look. Just to make sure that the visibility still exists.

I am seeing the same behavior on three separate WordPress installations.
If I make a NEW edit to a page, the revisions show from that point in time. Seems the existing revisions were trashed or hidden with the Gutenberg WordPress update.

This is one of the most annoying issues I have encountered? How can it just disappear? I am not crazy and just a few weeks ago I was able to see a list of my Page revisions. Now they are magically gone.

Same problem on one of my websites…

When I’m in a post and the right revisions section is not visible, I can make it appear by adding then removing a space in a text block and then updating the page. The revisions section will then show.

BUT, this does not work for a page. I need to find an old version of the text of the home page on one of my client sites and I can’t get to them.

Is this going to be fixed soon?

    Following..

If anyone is one WPEngine, they disable revisions by default.

Can anybody suggest a good plugin that handles revisions?
I’m very worried about Gutenberg destroying more than it can ever gain.

Hi all, i found that on my site the “Webcraftic Clearfy – WordPress optimization plugin” caused the disappearence of the revisions. Seems they are still on to fix that bug..
When i disable the plugin revisions reappear properly.

This is why I hate updates. Nobody tests anything and just expects us to volunteer to be your guinea pig. You know the foundation we are using. You know the code that is written and you know the operating system is most likely mac or windows, but yet every update comes with bugs, patches and work arounds. Same with cell phones n operating systems. Can’t we just skip all the nonsense and get to the “industry standards. how many years are the public going to operate as guinea pigs until full blown riot forces yo to create industry standards.

I am not a coder, programmer or developer, but at some point someone needs to throw some logic into this pot. I paid over a $1,000 for a cell phone from verizon. You “tech” people forced an update on me. Before that update my phone connected to my truck radio and hands free controlls just fine. Now I can not make phone calls. google my maps won’t play through the radio. And pandora or youtube will literally physically change my radio from auxillary mode to radio station mode after each and every song or video. Thanks for the update and destroying my $1,000 phone. Job well done.

Today i spend 3 hours typing a blog post and accidentally hit a button that says undo because i accidentally deleted a sentence and wanted to undo it. Little did I know that “undo” button removed/deleted/disappeared/trashed/removed/deleted 2100 words and left me with one sentence. No revisions buttong anywheree to be found. Even installed a WP revisions list plugin still can’t find my revisions for the last 3 hours of autosaves!

I’m glad your life doesn’t get updated like this every time an update comes out, but ours does. And I keep going on and on about the shit you destroy with your untested updates!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just lost 3 hours of work, and the last cell phone update cost me $1,000. The windows update cost me weeks of researching to fix all the bugs.

AND IM NOT A TECH GUY WHO MODIFIES AND ALTERS THINGS. I USE IT IN ITS “OUT OF THE BOX” FUNCTIONALITY!!! THESE THINGS SHOULD NOT BE THINGS WHEN YOU USE ITEMS IN THEIR ” OUT OF THE BOX FUNCTIONAL STATE”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GET IT TOGETHER WORDPRESS CREATORS, DEVELOPERS, UPDATERS, DESIGNERS OR WHATEVER VERBIAGE YOU USE TO CALL YOURSELF!!!!

BEFORE I PUBLISH MY SITE TO THE PUBLIC OR PAY MY CODER FINAL PAYMENT I GO THROUGH AND CLICK ON EVERY BUTTON, MENU ITEM, LINK, SHARE OPTION. I WRITE TEXT IN EVERY TEXT FIELD, BLOOG POST, PAGE POST, HEADERS & FOOTERS, i SIGN UP FOR MY OWN NEWSLETTERE. I TEST EVERY FUNCTIONAL BELL AND WHISTLES AND OPTION THERE IS ON EVERY PAGE ON BOTH THE FRONT END AND THE BACK END BEFORE EVEN ALLOWINNG SOMEONE TO VISIT MY SITE OR MAKING FINAL PAYMENT.

DO YOU GUYS EVEN TEST ANYTHING, OR ARE YOU JUST WRITING CODE?? SERIOUSLY THE REVISIONS OPTIONS IS JUST GONE? aND YOU’VE KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM FOR ALMOST 11 MONTHS NOW ACCORDING TO THE DATES ON THESE COMMENTS??
tHANKS FOR MAKING MY LIFE LESS CONVENIENT BECAUSE OF YOUR LAZINESS!!!!

Lots of threads and replies about this problem, but no solution that actually works!

For whoever uses “Webcraftic Clearfy – WordPress optimization plugin”, the fix is easy.
Under Performance Options, you set a number to limit post revisions(my personal preference is 30 revisions), instead of leaving it on WordPress Default and the revisions work again!
