• I have a very long document that I have tried to enter as a page in WP. It has worked very well in the past (although not as long). With this particular page it only shows a short amount of the page (https://urbansurvivalplan.com/siplesson6bc/) I have tried a number of times to paste the document from Word and re-edit but the same thing happens. Any Ideas? Please!

    Thanks you!

  • Further elaboration on the problem would help. Please.

    Hello Slim,

I would like to help you with this issue and I believe we can get it resolved. Do you have AIM (instant messenger) so we can communicate faster? Mine is pentester101.

    Looking forward to helping you!

Slim please don’t respond to Pen, he’s a new member, no community standing to speak of.

This could be an attempt to gain important personal information…

I could be wrong, but better safe then sorry though…

I’ll re-ittterate my previous statement though, some more information would be really helpful… ??

    Hello t31os,

I resent you comment about me trying to gain important personal information from someone asking for help!

How can I become established in this community when I try to help someone and you are telling people i am trying to “Gain important personal information”!

You have not been around here that long either (4 months on your other profile and one month on the current one).

Look, I am only here to help, if you would like my help then I will be more then happy to assist but if you are going to just barrage me with inconsiderate comments then I will go somewhere else.

By the way t31os, if you would just read his comment and look at his site you would see exactly what problem he is having.

    Slim,

Try copying and pasting the text in sections and see if that will work.

Also, when you save the text you pasted in wordpress does it get saved on the back end? Or does it just save part of it?

Penrester, thank you for your input. I have tried pasting in portions. It has not helped.

When I paste the document, everything shows just fine. When I update the page however, it cuts everything off.

It is quite frustrating. I can not think of what could be causing it.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks again

It’s just that i find it very perculiar that someone registers on a forum, and their first post suggests contact via personal email.

Why did you suggest email, when you can post right here in the forum?..this is a help forum, why circumvent using it?

You’ll have to forgive my forwardness on the matter, but i find that quite unusual…

Forums are forums, why use email?… if you communicate openly in the forum everyone else benefits from the suggestions, the questions and any tips posted…

Sorry for being rude, but as i said before, better safe then sorry… ??

P.S. You’re welcome to pop round and sort this out with me personally if you feel strongly about it….

As for my standing, by all means, click through both my profiles, and posts and judge for yourself… i’m not here to win any awards…

Slim what kind of document are you using, the old .doc, or the newer .docx for more current versions of Word.

I can make some test files and try to replicate the problem.

NOTE: There’s no need to click update each time, just click on preview first…

Does the document contain any special formatting?… non-standard fonts etc?

t310s I did not tell him to use my personal email I simply suggested to use an instant messenger service because posting on forums takes a long time for responses and replies to be made. I mean look at how far we have gotten on this discussion, the first post was made two days ago and we have not even solved his problem. When you have a computer issue or something goes wrong with an appliance what do you do? You call the support line for instant help, I was just trying to give Slim a “support line” so he could have instant help. However, it seems as though he may have found help elsewhere since he has not replied since his first post.

Thanks, I am using Word 2007 and cut and pasting. To be honest, I don’t know what the extension is. As I mentioned, I have been able to make it work a number of times before. I do not think the fonts could be considered “non-standard” also I think the formatting is “normal”. You do bring a good point (for testing) I will try pasting to a notepad and then put it up and see if that has the same problem.

I would appreciate any other thoughts. Thanks!

Pen, you’re response just struck me as suspicious, that’s all, i’ve been using the web for a long time, and your approach just seemed suspect. Apologies if it was misplaced, but i see you’ve not had any further activity, i guess that’s just a coincidence though right?
    ——-

Slim, Sorry i didn’t notice your response sooner …. (wp forums thread tracking via profile needs alot of work).

I don’t use Word myself, at least not for use with WordPress, so i can’t really comment on your issue, i can of course think out loud though.. ??

Did you manage to get any testing done and resolve or narrow down the problem?

I have come up against a more-or-less identical problem. I have a long page and when I exceed a certain, precise size the page no longer displays. I’ve asked my host support people for help, but I’m running it by you folks in case it turns out to be an application problem (WP), rather than a hosting or d/b issue (for the life of me, I can’t understand why the application would impose an arbitrary web page length limit…!?). If anyone knows what the problem is, I’d be grateful for a reply to the email address, below.

Here’s the text of my email to my host support people:

Dear Support…I have come across a puzzling limitation on page length. The limit I have come up against is 45.56K of mixed ASCII text and HTML. That is, when I exceed precisely 46,652 bytes, the page fails to display–all but the header. The inbound link to the page remains ok.

Is this a MYSQL d/b limitation that I can adjust? Is it a limit of the text entry buffer imposed by WP and, if so, why?

    * Web page: Link
    * WP version: 2.8

In any case I need more space for this page. What can I do to resolve it? I’d rather not go to subpages if I don’t have to. Thoughts?

    Thanks!
    Cliff
