How to add media in Gutenberg code editor?

  • Am I missing something simple? I don’t see how I can add photos for a plugin that requires shortcode in the Gutenberg code editor.

    P.S. Great idea! Upgrade everyone’s site and make an editor no one asked for and make it the default editor. And make sure you don’t warn them beforehand! Trying to give it a chance, but this is just a horrible experience all around.

    A notice was added to everyone’s dashboard 4 months before the editor was released advising people that it was coming. It even included information on how to stick with the existing editor when it was released.

    Here are three possibilities to add photos with a shortcode:

    1. The new editor has a Shortcode block, where you can include the shortcodes you’re trying to use.

    2. Use a Classic block, also available in the new editor, and add the shortcodes to that block.

    3. If you have the Classic editor plugin installed, create the post using the classic editor and include your shortcodes.

    I tried each of these methods with a gallery shortcode that’s available with the Jetpack plugin I’ve got installed on my site, and they all worked as expected; but I don’t know of course if the plugin you’re using will function the same way. If it doesn’t, you may need to contact the plugin developer for assistance.

    I don’t recall seeing any notices on my Dashboard. MetaSlider add-on upsell notification- check! Gutenberg notification- nope! If it showed up in further down, I wouldn’t ever see it. I don’t spend that much time on my Dashboard page.

    I have installed the Classic editor for now. Thanks daleducatte.

    Obviously I’m frustrated. I have a theme with PageBuilder built in, and I hate it too. The problem is my site deals with a boat load of photos, which requires a lightbox plugin to simplify the site. My entire site is heavily dependent on that one plugin.

    If WordPress decides to stop supporting the Classic editor, then I’m screwed.
