• I’ve upgraded to WP 5.0.2 and I’m encountering problems with the new Gutenberg editor. When I try to add post tags, the tags just randomly disappear when adding them. Only 2 tags get saved and it seems to be random what tags get saved and what tags don’t

Using the Troubleshooting mode on the Health Check plugin doesn’t seem to help either. All plugins and themes have been disabled in this mode and still the block editor comes up with the same problems. Could this be a serverside issue? Anyone experiencing the same?

There is a known issue for entering tags with special characters like & in them. Are you seeing any patterns like that?

No, so far tags with just plain text and no special characters behave strange! As soon as I hit the comma to go to the next tag, the issue comes up.

Same problem. I have had to go to the posts screen and use the quick edit to get them to stick. Quite annoying. In fact anything in the sidebar for data just randomly delete themselves and I can’t get anything done fighting this for every post.

    +1
Some tags disappear from the post on entry and we have to add them via quick edit on the Posts page.
Any ideas on a fix? Extremely inconvenient.

I’m having the same issue, even on 5.0.3 and I’ve also notices that, on my VPS, that the CPU usage skyrockets when adding tags. It will go from well under 0.5 to over 5.0 in seconds just because I’m frantically adding tags.

Will try the quick edit hack and see if that helps. Still hoping for a full solution.

Same problem here on multiple sites, but all located on the same server

Same issue, even for tags not containing special characters. Running WordPress 5.1.1.

I have the same issue. WordPress version 5.1.1 and language is Turkish.

Experiencing same issue with plain text tags. Trying to add tags with Gutenberg editor results in them disappearing 1-4 seconds after entry and the CPU load on my server sky-rocketing. Only way to make tags quick is via ‘quick edit’.

Exact same problem, on multiple sites with different themes. Here i was thinking it was just me who had this issue, its really annoying.

Same issue with disappearing tags and CPU skyrocketing (as @plagiarismtoday noted). Has anyone found a solution or even gotten support on this issue?

    Ditto.

Can confirm the problem still persists in 5.2 and that the quick edit hack does work.

Basically, the only way I can find to add tags without completely melting my poor server is through quick edit. Still no word on a solution.

Still happening to me too, infuriating and should be a basic, quick fix, not a months-long issue!

I have to use the Quick Edit fix or persist and retype in tags several times.

So here’s the ONLY way I’ve been able to avoid this… and it’s weird, but it works.

When typing a tag, type only the first letter and then wait for the cursor to blink 3 times, then type the second letter. The autosuggest should then populate and you can click on the pre-existing tag. I’ve noticed if I do it that way, selecting from the list, the tags don’t disappear.

It’s pretty agonizing to have to slow down at first, but then I realized I’m actually saving time by not having to retype the same tag 5 times.
