Hello. Is there a documentation page that lists *all* of the arguments/values that are accepted by the [gallery] shortcode?

    Thanks.

Sorry, but there is no way to answer this easily. Essentially there are three things that determine the attributes:

    1. The provider – WordPress, Flickr, SmugMug, Google Photos, Picasa, Zenfolio and Instagram each have different attributes
    2. The construct within a provider- Are you showing a user tree (SmugMug, Zenfolio)? A collection of albums (all providers apart from WP or Instagram)? Photos from an individual album (all providers apart from WP or Instagram)? Photos from a user regardless of an album (all providers except Zenfolio)? Each construct for each provider has specific attributes, such as album ids, filters, tags etc.
    3. The layout – Regardless of the provider and the construct you can apply different layouts. A square / circular thumbnail grid, a justified grid, a mosaic, a masonry layout and a slideshow each has its own attributes.

Documentation links for each of the above can be found via Photonic → Getting Started in your WP dashboard.

The best way to go about this is to follow the logical flow as prompted by “Add / Edit Photonic Gallery” – it will automatically give you context sensitive options per screen and construct the eventual shortcode.

If you want a list nonetheless, you can look at Add Media → Photonic and see the options therein – there is a listing of attributes on each tab.

Thanks for the reply. I now understand that the attributes depend on how my gallery is constructed. I can tell you that in my case, I am displaying all of the photos for a single Instagram account. I have not yet decided on my layout (I am already familiar with the Layouts page), and will make a decision soon). Are you able to point me to a page that shows the different arguments I can pass to the [gallery] shortcode?

For example, the Layouts page sometimes adds a limit=’10 argument to the [gallery] shortcode. Under what circumstances can I use this?

    Thanks.

Sorry, but Photonic is not documented in that manner. There is documentation specific to Instagram, and there is documentation specific to layouts, but nothing that lists everything out for you in one place, as the number of options would become overwhelming.

That being said, are you not finding all options listed via “Add / Edit Photonic Gallery”? Typically this is what you would do once you get the popup with “Add / Edit Photonic Gallery”:

    1. Screen 1: Select Instagram
    2. Screen 2: Select what you want to show. I am guessing in your case it is “Multiple Photos”
    3. Screen 3: At the top you will see:

Though Photonic has the capability to handle tags, Instagram has not granted it permission to display photos by tag. You can only show all your photos without filtering. In the following only the latest 20 photos are displayed. You can change this in subsequent screens.

There is no action you can take on this screen, so you just move to the next.

    4. Screen 4: Now you pick your layout. What you pick will govern the subsequent screens.
    5. Screen 5: Regardless of the layout, on this screen you will see some options. E.g. “Number of photos to show”, “More button text” etc. The others are context-sensitive. This is a comprehensive list of what you can show. The question you have about “limit” is basically covered within these options. BTW, limit was a Zenfolio-specific parameter that has later been standardized to count a.k.a. “Number of photos to show” across all providers – it is something to control how many photos you want to show, but Instagram does not respect it it you put in a value more than 30 or so, I believe. Every presentation-specific option you can apply to your shortcode should show up on this screen.

Note that I am deliberately avoiding answering a question about shortcode parameters and advising you to look at the flow screen, because if and when you move to Gutenberg blocks the shortcode will become moot and you wouldn’t be able to hack the block output.

Sorry, where would I see this? I am currently not using Gutenberg. I’m using the Classic Editor, in conjunction with WPBakery Page Builder.

I don’t think migration to Gutenberg will be mandatory at least for several months, probably years. As I understand, the Classic Editor plugin will be maintained at least for that amount of time, and I currently have plans to stick with it as long as possible.

You should see something similar to the screenshots here: https://aquoid.com/plugins/photonic/gallery-creation/. A button shows up at the top of your editor. I am not sure if you have a plugin that is disabling the button. You might be able to see the button in the “Text mode” in that case.

Apologies for the brief response; I am out with my extended family and don’t have access to a computer for the next few hours.

OK yes, I now see that button, thanks. And when I click it, a guide opens up asking me how I want to configure the gallery. I think this should be good enough for now. Thanks for the guidance. We can consider this resolved.
