Update won’t work

    I tried to update WordPress since 4.8.8 and can’t. Whenever I click update it takes me to a 404 page on my site. Can someone please tell me how to update. Thanks

    Do a thorough backup (files and database) before you proceed.

    For most sites I’ve been installing the Classic Editor plugin, then update WoprdPress then enable that plugin when the update finishes. You can tweak the settings to default to the Classic Editor while allowing the choice to run the new Gutenberg editor when you want it. The best of both worlds.

    I stress the backup because things do ‘go wrong’. The backups are lifesavers when they do.
