• This is exactly the plug-in I have been looking for. It’s a Gutenberg block where I can add a link and it pulls in a summary and picture. Then it puts it in a box that links back.

However, when you add it as just a block it doesn’t do anything. The way I’ve gotten it to work is to insert a “classic” block, then use click on the icon in the editor within the block. When you paste the URL nothing happens at first. If you toggle between internal and external link it’ll refresh and do what is expected.

Despite the quirks, it’s the only one I’ve found that does what I’m looking for and isn’t larded up with too many features.

It produces a simple and attractive result.

I’ll keep using it and look forward to improvements in the future. Maybe some of it has to do with Gutenberg being so new.

    Thanks for making this plug-in

    Hi there,

The plugin should work perfectly fine in Gutenberg, but you have to manually fill in the title and summary for now. You can just click and start typing.

The one thing that doesn’t work in Gutenberg yet is the automatic retrieval of those things from the URL, that’s still on our todo list.

If this is a requirement we recommend installing the Classic Editor plugin until we add that feature for Gutenberg as well. Using the “Classic Block” in Gutenberg can indeed be a bit quirky.

    Hi again,

I wanted to let you know we just released VLP 2.0.0 with quite a few improvements and a Gutenberg block that should work a lot better than before.

Would love for you to give it another try and let me know what you think!
