Can’t post or edit

  • I cannot change anything in WP. After I log in I can see all of the previous posts, my profile, etc, but I can’t change anything. Can’t change my password, can’t write a new post, can’t edit an existing post, etc. For example, when I write a new post and then click on ‘publish’ when I’m done, then it takes me immediately out of WP and into my blog page! Also, when writing a new post I don’t see the Post Preview section that is normally shown at the bottom of the editing page. If I try to edit an existing post I do see the ‘Post Preview’ section at the bottom, but again after I’ve made my changes and hit Save I am immediately knocked out of WP and into my blog and the changes have not been made. If I hit the Back key I am returned to WP but the previous edits are gone.

    If I try to change the password after I log in, when I hit ‘update profile’ it takes me out of WP and into my blog and the password has not been changed. BUT I CAN change things in the OPTIONS section, for example General options or Writing options! So asumming I’m logged in properly since I can make those changes, why can’t I post?

  • Try deactivating all plugins and check to see if this resolves the problem. If it does, activate the plugins one by one – checking the post functionality after each re-activation – until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    1) disable all plugins from database and enable it on one by one to find out the culprit..

    2) Upgrade your wordpress and plugins to the latest version…and always installed non vulnerable plugins into your domain..

    Thanks; I turned the plug-ins off (only using two) but it didn’t help.

    One thing I have noticed is that the very last post didn’t show an author; that’s strange. So I deleted that post, but when I tried to add a replacement post I couldn’t do it. So I’m still stuck.

    It’s a very old version, 2.1.3(?), but has been working fine until recently.

    Do you have the same behavior I’m describing? It doesn’t save if you have some html in your content, but it will save if it’s just plain text?

    I tried creating a post with the title “Test” and contents “test post”. It wouldn’t even save that simple post.

    I turns out I can’t even change WP’s “Customize Permalink Structure” back to the default! ??
    Does anyone have any clue as to what’s happening here? Network Solutions is no help at all, since it’s not their software and they’re just my ISP.

    Lucky me; turns out someone had hacked my site. Updated to latest WP, removed hacks & changed themes. Prior to that the blog looked okay but it was generating LOTS of spam for any bot that visited, and manged to lock up my WP too. Seems okay now. Thanks for the input ??
