Classic vs. Block Editor

    Just a couple of comments.

    When I open a page with the Classic Editor plugin, there are two meta boxes for custom fields – the original and this one. Perhaps you could detect it is running inside the Classic Editor and not display?

    And you may want to change your display name to something like Custom Fields for the Block Editor (Gutenberg) as WP seems to have abandoned the name Gutenberg, and now that every one is finally being forced to face the reality of the Block Editor, they may not know to search for Gutenberg in the plugin name.

    Yes absolutely, I hadn’t thought that anyone would use this plugin with Classic Editor, but I know there are cases (such as with Disable Gutenberg plugin) where it would make sense. I’ve added to the to-do list and will get it fixed up next version.

    I just learned that Gutenberg/Block Editor now includes an option to display Custom Fields (off the three vertical dots option menu), so the need for your plugin is a bit redundant now. It was really a lifesaver during the Gutenberg development period, but it probably isn’t worth any more efforts on your part.

    I was thinking the same thing, but from what I understand all of the meta box functionality (e.g., custom fields) eventually will be replaced by JavaScript mechanisms. In other words, the Gutenberg Block Editor provided Custom Fields Meta Box most likely will be going away within the next couple of years. So gonna go ahead and continue development of this plugin. Just in case.
