Background Colour/Image on Columns

Hello,

There isn’t really a way to set a background for the columns, but depending on the block you’re using, you can set a background for the block.

If you’re using a paragraph block, then the background settings are found in the block settings in the color tab.

I can probably provide some CSS that takes care of this as well if you’d like to post a link.

My suggestion is to simply add a single column row layout block inside your column. Then you can style the background how you want.

You can see this in some of the prebuilt content as well. Look for the one with the row that has three columns with different background colors.

Thanks for this answer. It seems overkill to add a column inside a row layout inside a column inside a row layout, but it does indeed work!

Is there any plan to add background colours/images to columns themselves?

It’s under consideration. The current plan right now is just a simple background color with opacity.

The main issue is that columns are not moveable or duplicatable. So If you wanted to move content with the background from a third column to a second or just duplicate a third column and use in the second or in another row it won’t work unless you are using the row/layout inside a column. That and the fact that previous columns were very hard to select in Gutenberg are the reasons we have it set up the current way.

I would be interested to hear your take considering you can’t move or duplicate columns.

I completely get the point about duplicating content, and a simple background colour with opacity would be more than adequate for overlaying content on image backgrounds.

I’ve purchased ‘Kadence Blocks Pro’ and the Image Overlay/Split content options seem to handle my image background requirements…
