Using WP 4.9.8 on Blue Host. Theme Twenty Seventeen. No special plug-ins other than Akismet and Envira, the latter of which is not being used.

Trying to back the site up to Google Drive in anticipation of Gutenberg, but it will not complete. No directory is created in Drive. The site I’m trying to back up has a lot of photos, so it seems to be large – UDP scales it at 14-17GB. I have 18+ GB free on Drive.

I have fiddled with the Zip file size, to no constructive end. Am I trying to use the wrong product for this site?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Please can you post a link to a log file from a failed backup? Given the size of the site, you’d better let it run for some hours before downloading the log, to give us the best insight into what it’s doing. Use pastebin.com if it helps.

Thank you for your response, and I will be happy to follow your recommendation. Before doing so, may I please have your advice: Under the advanced options, I changed the “split archives” value from 400 to 1000. I was not sure in which direction, or how far, to “fiddle” with that setting. If you will give me a value you want me to use, I will initiate a new backup and send you the log.

    Greatly appreciate the support.

I would suggest changing the “split archives” value to less than 400 (perhaps 200?) as the files will upload faster.

Also, does it show that the backup is authenticated with Drive? Remember, you have to save changes, then go back to the settings page to the “Authenticate with Google” section and click the link:
    Account holder’s name: Acct Name

After you have saved your settings (by clicking ‘Save Changes’ below), then come back here once and click this link to complete authentication with Google Drive.

    Just making sure…

I let one run overnight and it failed again. I was unable to view/copy the log, this was the message:

Loading log file (log.f7977b39b9b0.txt) … 502 (UpdraftPlus: could not parse the JSON)

I am going to try again today after following Scott’s advice to change the split archive value in the opposite direction.

    (@ndsintexas)

After changing the split archive value to 200, I tried another backup, which ended with this message:

The backup attempt has finished, apparently unsuccessfully (Nov 23 08:36:34)

I saved the log file, but I’m not seeing a way to attach it to this message. Kindly advise how you would wish me to get you that file.

As always, there is no directory or data related to updraft on my Google Drive page.

Under the Settings button on Drive, Updraft Plus is listed as one of the Connected Apps, though the Options button associated with Updraft does not provide any choices, unlike the other connected apps.

Thanks in advance for your help, I cannot believe that this has to be so difficult…

Following from Scott’s advice, I went back and checked that UpdatePlus was showing as being authenticated under WP. It was, but I deleted it and re-authenticated. I received the following message:

Success: you have authenticated your Google Drive account. Name: Norman Sanders. Your Google Drive quota usage: 0.3 % used, 36765.6 MB available

I will now try another backup.

I created a PasteBin account, but am unclear what to do with it. It does not allow me to paste either the name of the log file, or the actual text of the log file through a copy and paste.

My apologies, I’ve never used this tool and don’t know what I’m doing with it.

I could put the saved file in my Google Drive and share it with you, but you’d have to give me an ID of some sort for doing that.

Incidentally, I did just get a new message from Google confirming that Updraft Plus is now connected to my Google Drive account.

    (@ndsintexas)

So I got PasteBin to accept the text, but it then failed because I have exceeded the 512K size limit on a free account. The actual txt file is 2,492KB.

    Next?

David: I just received an email from WordPress indicating that a Backup had completed, but it also said that the backup has not finished. It also contains this info:

    Errors encountered:
    * Backup directory (/home1/ndsintex/public_html/wp-content/updraft) is not writable, or does not exist.

    Warnings encountered:
    * /home1/ndsintex/public_html/wp-content/updraft: The backup directory is not writable (or disk space is full) – the database backup is expected to shortly fail.

There is also a log attached to the email. If you will give me some way of getting this to you, I will do so.

Interestingly, for the first time there is now an “UpdraftPlus” folder on my Google Drive, though it contains nothing.

Hey, I’m trying diligently to do my part to figure out why your app is not working. Please let me know if you have given up on this so I can stop looking for solutions. Cheers,

    Hi,

Sorry for the delay over the weekend.

    Have you got this working?

From your last couple messages it sounds like the backup is failing because it either cannot write to the wp-content/updraft folder or theres no room on your server to write the files.

Could you contact your hosts and show them the error messages?

    Best Wishes,

    Ashley

    Ashley,

Thanks for your reply. I believe that yesterday, after numerous iterations of associating and re-associating UpDraft with Google Drive, and after purchasing additional Drive storage, I was successful in getting my first backup done. I am going to try another one today, and if it succeeds I will then try a restore.

For the moment I don’t require any further assistance, but that could change. Thanks for your follow-up.
