colspan rowspan freezes table block

My table options don’t seem to allow cells to merge. So, I’ve tried editing the table block as HTML. But, when adding a colspan or rowspan, the table block gets a warning, “This block contains unexpected or invalid content.” I’m given two buttons, “Resolve” and “Convert to HTML,” however am unable to click either one. The block freezes, and I can only delete it to resolve the issue.
