    Hi, quick question:

I just duplicated a copy of my website onto a subdomain which I intend to use to serve a specific country (https://au.example.com)

Since everything was duplicated, I believe the same WordFence license key has come across too. Is this an issue? ie, the same key been used on two independent WP installations?

I’ve had a look at how to generate a new license but can’t find any documentation about this.

(I’m using the free WordFence license).

    Many thanks in advance!

  • Hi @smes,

You may receiving some errors stating that there another site is using the same API key.

If you encounter these errors please follow these steps:

    1. Go to Wordfence -> Tools -> Import/Export Options
    2. Export Wordfence Options
    3. Copy the key
    4. Reinstall the Wordfence plugin
    5. Go back to Import/Export Options
    6. Import the key to restore your settings

After you reinstall, the Wordfence plugin will automatically fetch a new licence key and you should be good to go!

    Hi @wfdave

    Thanks for your reply.

Just to clarify, in step 6 you state “import the key to restore your settings” but then you go on to say that the plugin will automatically fetch a new key upon reinstallation.

Did you mean to say, all I need to do is import the settings after reinstalling?

Also, if I don’t get any sort of error that another site is using the same API key, is it safe to assume that everything is working and there’s no need to do anything?

    Many thanks for your time!

Yes, sorry for the confusion. The API key is not exported when using import/export.

    https://www.wordfence.com/help/tools/import-export/

If anyone gains access to it, they can import your Wordfence settings (excluding your API key).

Also since you’re not getting errors regarding your API key, you don’t need to do anything else.

    Thanks!
