Search Console Sitemap error

Can you make sure you’ve enabled the XML Sitemap Index feature of the Yoast SEO plugin? You can do so by following the steps here — https://kb.yoast.com/kb/enable-xml-sitemaps-in-the-wordpress-seo-plugin/

It should create the XML Sitemap Index (e.g. https://mywebsite.com/sitemap_index.xml)

You can then submit the sitemap to the search engines by following this article — https://kb.yoast.com/kb/submit-sitemap-search-engines/

Network unreachable: robots.txt unreachableWe were unable to crawl your Sitemap because we found a robots.txt file at the root of your site but were unable to download it. Please ensure that it is accessible or remove it completely.

is the message I get. On 4 websites, in which I use Yoast.

Can someone please help me. Google cannot index the site when i put in sitemap_index.xml for them to index.

I have deleted the robots.txt in yoast per googles suggestion and still nothing.

I have done that but no response. I mean I would like to have this problem resolved.
