GoDaddy is now offering its own security service. About 2 weeks ago the site broke. I was unable to get onto the backend to check the plugins. I was unable to restore the backed up site and database. GoDaddy support suggested I go into the site via SFTP and remove the Wordfence plugin. I was horrified but had no other choice. The site was restored but GoDaddy recommended I buy into their security firewall service. The client agreed to this. Since then, I’ve had another site break on GoDaddy host, using the Wordfence plugin. I have had to remove the Wordfence plugin off that site as well. I am really annoyed as the plugin has been my lifesaver on a number of occasions when I’ve had a malware report, or I can see a sudden increase in bot attacks. I am having to remove the plugin on all client sites being hosted on GoDaddy and I am wondering if anyone else has had the same issues.

  • What kind of GD Hosting are you using? VPS, sharedhosting ..etc..?

    Hi @stephinseattle,
We’ve had some reports recently of the Wordfence automatic update process breaking. It seems primarily to be happening on GoDaddy but we’ve also seen it on a couple of others. We’re trying to keep track of this to see if we can figure out why it’s happening on those sites. It does appear that this happens to other plugins as well sometimes so it doesn’t appear to be a Wordfence only issue, but we’re not sure if we could be doing anything that exacerbates it.

If it happens again, it would be super if you can download and zip up the broken Wordfence folder and send that in to us together with information about how and where your site is hosted. A phpinfo() printout would be good for example. If so, you can email that to [email protected] together with a description of what happened. Thanks!
