I know it’s an outdated browser and it’s on its way out but I discovered a hack that will at least fix one of the major issues I had, which was none of the CSS Background images were showing up.
Here’s the fix and it’s super easy:
Just remove the quotes from the image links and tada, they show up.
background: url(images/link-out.gif) left top no-repeat; ?? Like that

I still can’t get my list images to show up but at least now the background is there as intended. Plus, from what I can see, it doesn’t effect the way it displays on other browsers.

    TY for the tip.
FYI, Mac IE was discontinued three years ago and support was officially ended last year.

Yeah, that’s why I started my post “I know it’s an outdated browser” but I still want it to look pretty for those stragglers.

Suprised you hadn’t found that earlier… that was my first CSS ‘bug’ Couldn’t figure out for the life of me until I did some research and found it. Actually, I used this example in a job interview once!
Also, for the record, it’s not IE5/Mac’s bad standards… but rather it’s exceptionally good standards when compared to IE/Win, and the fact that it listens to many of the same rules as IE/Win. That’s where issues start to develop and the need for band-pass filters.

    fan-tastic!
    thank you.
SO many mac users are stuck with IE5.2… for whatever reason they won’t use safari, and thus get an unhappy error message from my sites.
It’s so nice to be able to remove them, and know that even schlumpy out-of-daters can enjoy my bg images without my nagging suggestion that they switch to firefox, or use safari.
    well spotted!
    thank you.

    macmanx,
Mac IE has NOT been dropped by MS. It has not reached End of Life yet either. VERY BAD INFO!!

    See https://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?id=fh;%5Bln%5D;lifeprodi

Where MAC IE 5.1 shows it’s EOL as DEc 31 2005…
And that’s not to mention 5.2.3 which came after that.
