Danish characters being replaced

  • Hi guys,
    This is a new problem that has only begun since yesterday. Up until yesterday everything was displayingproperly, but this morning, every danish character (??,??,?￥) has been replaced by a question mark thingy.
    The replacing of characters with question marks obviously not only makes the words look wierd (and is damn annoying) but also breaks the code in some places resultingt in the layouts becomming seriously messed up.
    Nothing has been changed in the code, templates or database of my site in the past 48 hours, and this just started today. I have contacted my host to see if they have changed their PHp setup but haven’t heard anything back yet.
    Any suggestions or help would be most appreciated.

  • Seeing from here not all characters are wrong. Both in FF 1.0 and IE 5.5 the [??,?￥] are OK, but the [??] displays incorrectly, though in different ways: ? [question mark] in FF and wierd characters in IE. What is worse, in IE the wrong characters “eat up” several of the following letters…
    Are you using any textile plugin? Recently some similar issues were reported because of that. There also might be something with the server’s settings (like upgrade, small changes etc.) that could affect your site. Since I am trying to closely follow this kind of threads, my experience is: almost always it is a server or plugin porblem.

    For some reason, your blog entries are (correctly) encoded as utf-8, but the sidebar headers, the footer, <b>and also, say, the meta tags in the header part of your tepmplate source</b> are in iso-8859-1(5). Have you loaded index.php into an editor and accidentally failed to save it as utf-8? What does the links/link categories part of your admin interface look like?

    I have the same problem! I’m from Norway and the letters (??, ??, ?…) just turned to (?) today. Everything was perfect before!
    What host do you use? I use b-one.net.

    Login and go to Option/Reading. Is your encoding for pages and feeds set at utf-8?

    If so, try changing it to iso-8859-1 . Please note, you may have to re-enter the mentioned characters in each post.
