Recover FTP credentials

  • Totally desperate I’m asking for help. I should say that I used to work in WordPress but without deep knowledge. So if someone could explain it to me as easy as possible I would really appreciate it.

    Here is the problem. When trying to install a theme or a plugin, it asks for FTP username and password but neither me nor IT manager has any idea about it. I’ve read lots of information on this subject, but nothing works for me. They advise to edit the wp-config.php file by adding a line, but all ways to access this file (via FileZilla or by installing the WP Config File Editor plug-in) require an FTP credentials again!! Vicious circle.

    Any ideas??

    You can get that info from your hosting provider.

    Sorry, I’m an absolute dummy in this area. What’s a hosting provider and how can I find a way to contact it?

    If you can, share your site’s URL please.

    If not, your “IT manager” you mentioned in your OP should know it.
