• Hi Guys
Been doing few basic WP setups and now I like to get more into it, maybe you guys could point me to a right direction.
I like to create a child theme based on a reasonable parent “Starter Theme” I looked into “understrap”, but I got very confused and i think not a good starting point as it was telling me about dependencies ans I am working on cPanel most of the time and do not have that much options. I also looked at “underscores” and it is telling me not for Parent Theme use not sure.

So if someone has a starter theme that is live and gets updated now and then and stable, I appreciate your help in advance.
    Ben

  • A good starting point for learning are the default themes, twenty($something) et al.
    Take a look at these.

By starter theme are you looking to create a blank theme for development? A child theme is usually created to make a few modifications to a theme that will be updated by the developers.

If you want to create your own theme to use on sites I suggest using a blank theme like Bones or _s (underscores) or even BlankSlate

Then you do not need a child theme. You just name the theme for your website and start creating.

The main reason to start with a blank theme is they usually only include some basic functions.

The theme I use for all of my websites was created from Bones but has been customized so much over the years of use and updating that it is pretty much completely from scratch now. I have a Bootstrap 3 and 4 version with many custom options and features.

    Here’s a bunch of starter themes. https://wp-root.org/develop-debug/free-wordpress-starter-themes/

    I always start with underscores.
