    Hallo Tobias,

I am evaluating a few table plugins at the moment.

I have activated the plugin and created a very simple table with dummy data in my admin panel.

However, it seems that I need to click on each individual cell to enter a formula in the Advanced Editor?
Is there an option to calculate a value per column? So, a way for me to indicate that column G = column C + column F so that the plugin automatically calculates it for each row?
Or alternatively to drag the formula down the column?
I tried duplicating a line to see if the formula would adjust downwards automatically, but it did not.
Manually inserting formulas will be impractical for all but the very smallest static data sets.

I found the list of mathematical and logical operators supported by TablePress here: https://tablepress.org/tablepress-features-formulas/

    Thanks for your help!
    Adel

    Hi,

thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.

Unfortunately, there’s no direct support to fill cells/columns/rows with formulas automatically ?? You will indeed have add them manually, sorry.
(You don’t have to do it in the “Advanced Editor” though, you can just enter them directly.)

One trick, if you know a bit of scripting, could be to create them externally, e.g. in Excel, and then export the formulas (un-evaluated table) to a CSV file and import that into TablePress.

    Regards,
    Tobias

In Excel if you choose “Show Formulas” in the Formulas section, then your CSV file should contain the actual formulas which you can then import into your table in TablePress. Open the CSV in a text editor to check this before importing, though. Working with the formulas and auto-populating the cells should be easier in Excel.

    Hi,

nice idea! I never really thought of this before. Thanks for sharing this trick with the shown formulas!

    Best wishes,

@jordonrupp That is a pretty cool idea, thanks!
To make it work for a large dataset, you would need the ability to import some columns relating to a record from one file and some columns from another, but I’ll mull over how to tweak this for a bit.
    Thank you again ??

    Hi,

that’s not directly possible in TablePress, so merging tables is also best be done in Excel or similar.

    Regards,
    Tobias
