Before I commit to downloading, learning, and using this plugin, I need to know if it can do a few things. I quickly perused your documentation to see if I could find these answers. But I am not sure if your plugin allows for these features.

I know with the free downloads extension, once can just enter email and get an email with the download.

Can they add multiple free downloads to their cart before entering in their email? It seems like they just click download now, and it automatically goes to the form. But I have multiple free downloads, so I need them to be able to add as many as they want before filling out the form. Is this possible?

Also, can I customize the email they receive? I tested out the demo on the free downloads plugin, and I got the canned email: Thanks for your purchase. Here are your links. Can I add to that email with my own customized message?

These products are free for a time, and then I am charging for them, so will it be easy to then switch to paid downloads?

    Thanks!

  • The Free Downloads extension does not currently allow customers to select multiple files before proceeding with entering their email address and downloading the files. You can opt to not use the Free Downloads extension so customers could add multiple free items to their cart and proceed with the standard checkout form.

You can customize the email customers receive. This is the standard Purchase Receipt email and can be customized from within the settings.

You can change the price of your products at anytime. A customer may receive an item for free now, but if they, or someone else, want to purchase it again after the price has been raised, they will then pay the new, current price. This is for a basic product. Incorporating Recurring Payments could make potential price changes more complicated.

    Thank you for the information.

I was using a different plugin, and I had set it all up just to find out that a user couldn’t checkout with a $0.00 balance.

So if I opt not to use the free download extension and customers add multiple free items to their cart, would they be able to proceed to checkout?

With the other plugin, the checkout is through PayPal and PayPal doesn’t allow a zero balance, so they can’t check out.

Would a user be able to use the standard checkout form and check out even with a zero balance?

The answer to both questions is yes. A customer can add multiple $0 items to their cart and checkout successfully. They will not be directed to PayPal. The $0 payment will be processed on your site and they will receive a purchase confirmation email.
