• First post here. I just saved changes to two pages on my web site and now see “Index of ____:” tags at the bottom of each one. For example, my About page now has “Index of About:” at the bottom. I did not type in this text, and it does not appear in the WordPress editor, either in Visual or HTML mode. I see no settings for these pages in WordPress that would cause this or that makes these pages appear different from any others on my site.

What happened? I made changes to the site yesterday and did not experience this. It has never happened before.

Thanks in advance for your help.

  • The lines are probably being added by the template files in your theme. Try editing page.php, looking for the line “Index of” and removing the relevant code.

Thanks, esmi. I looked at the page.php file and did not see “Index of” there. Also, it seems that I can’t edit these files. The following line appears on WordPress beneath these files:

“You need to make this file writable before you can save your changes. See the Codex for more information.”

A friend of mine, who is far more knowledgable with this stuff than I, got the site started for me. I have asked him about this and will see what he has to say.

    Thanks again.
