wpCAS plugin – can’t add new user

  • Before I activated the plugin, I added a user (administrator) with my university username and password. I want to use wpcas to switch authentication to our university’s system. Once I activated and configured the settings, it worked. The only problem is that I can’t add another user because there is no box for password. This is a problem for obvious reasons, but my password must be changed every 3 months, so I can’t change it if there’s no place for a password. Can anyone help?

    This appears to be a bug that’s new with 2.8.x or so; not sure exactly. You can either turn off wpCAS and add your users (being sure to match their ids exactly) with random (secure, ideally) passwords and then enable wpCAS again, or you can change the code to not suppress the password fields and add random (secure) passwords there. The latter is what I have done.

    I’ve been thinking about how to fix this, but haven’t come up with anything yet. Of course I’ll contribute any actual solution I or anyone in my organization creates.

    Or maybe you have already figured out a solution, since you posted this all of four months ago; is yours better than mine?

    I haven’t looked at this thread for a while, so sorry for the late response.

    I originally thought that this was a problem. As it turns out, our university system only needs a username. Even though the password changes every 3 months, the username doesn’t. What this means is that the only people who can log in are university employees or students with an eraider id. Having wpCAS takes the authentication away from WP and transfers it to the university. As long as I add a user from the university with an eraider id (username), they will be authenticated. I do have to have them added as an authorized user with our IT department otherwise, anyone student or faculty member could be a user, which is not what we want.
