Woocommerce cart cancels orders

We are using Woocommerce shopping cart with PayPal Standard; no API.
When an order comes in, the money goes through, PayPal receives the payment, but our cart automatically changes the status to CANCELLED, and sends an email to the customer telling them the order has been cancelled. In the orders themselves, in the admin, there is the following note:Dismiss this notice.

Unpaid order cancelled – time limit reached. Order status changed from Pending payment to Cancelled.Have called PayPal, and they tell me it’s a Woocommerce issue, not with PayPal. Any ideas?
