Image handling not acceptable

  • The code produced by the 3.4.0 version is totally unacceptable.

    Images and galleries are not handled like the current editor. Sizes don’t match. Positioning does not match.

    The code produced does not match the code in the teaser post.

    Link to “attachment page” does not work, or does not show lightbox page.

    The edit options are not intuitive. Image size specifications are in pixels, however the generated posts are scaled to the column or page width (and in one of my tests to some other inscrutable size).

    I would be happy to go over details with anyone and lend a hand.

    @ludwigkeck thanks for testing Gutenberg. I would love to explore a little more what is happening with your images. Is this existing images not matching sizes? I ask as this could be a bug and finding out more details would help in determining this.

    There are a number of issues, some bugs, some flaws, and some design variations that will cause the user to be uncomfortable.

    There are issues with galleries and with how individual images are handled. Since the user has fewer controls with galleries allow me to discuss those first.

    The Gutenberg editor does not generate the same code as shown in the Code Editor view. User expectation with be frustrating. The heights of images in the gallery vary for different aspect ratios in order to force equal horizontal sizes. That looks amateurish at best. The links to the “attachment page” provides a vastly different viewer experience. With code from the classic editor the viewer gets large images in a lightbox page. Gutenberg goes to individual pages with thumbnail images.

    Handling of individual images is even more “surprising’. I will put some demos together, but maybe we can start with the gallery portion.

    I do wish to help, not just point out problem areas, I hope we can find a way to cooperate and help realize the promises of Gutenberg.
