Importing Demo Content

Hi, to start off — I am extremely web-inept. I am following the instructions that came with a theme I downloaded and I am trying to get the demo content it came with up for quickness. I’ve installed the theme and plugins needed for it. However, the instructions are telling me to go to Tools > Import > WordPress Importer > Run Importer to get the demo content up but ‘WordPress Importer’ isn’t on the list of importers. I have clicked the link ‘search the plugin directory’ for more importers and ‘WordPress Importer’ is the first one on the list but it says it is active so why is it not in the list of importers?

Am i being stupid? I’ve tried activating a new theme and re-activating the theme I want, deleting all media and comments off the backend and deactivating wordpress importer but it still won’t appear in the list of importers.
